As I watched the endless stream of end of year recaps come in it made me wonder if a definitive list could be sought, aggregating publishers’ staff lists into one neat pile. So, after the data crunching, here it is. There are a number of caveats to this list, firstly we have only included publishers who we have recommended at Cureditor, in an attempt to maintain the highest quality. Only “best album” lists have been included, there are no sub categories, i.e. “best jazz album”, although naturally some publishers have certain genres in mind. We’ve only included lists that have clearly ranked the albums, no sitting on the fence lists have been added. And no multiple staff lists have been included, where each staff writer has an opinion.
The list would look quite different depending upon how we totted up the points. We favoured consistency, in the hope of eradicating outliers, so an album scored 10 points for finishing top of a list, and 1 point for finishing 100th. However, finishing 11th scored just 2 points, with increasing points given the higher it finished within the top 10. This hopefully meant that exceptional albums rose to the top and consensus reined elsewhere. Finally, being an article aggregator, we have recommended feature articles related to each of the top ten artists.
